Netherlands Launching Centre to Help Companies Innovate Using Principles of "Safe and Sustainable by Design"

An initiative to ensure that health, safety, and sustainability are considered along with cost and performance at the earliest stages of Dutch product design.

The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), along with several partners, is creating a national expertise centre for Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) to help Dutch companies excel in a world that's increasingly calling for cleaner, safer industry.

The Centre, which is expected to open later in 2026, will offer companies technical guidance "to make materials, substances and products safe and sustainable from the outset, and replace existing substances and materials with safer and more sustainable alternatives."

Assistance will come in several forms, including training sessions, workshops, access to useful tools and data, and a platform for sharing knowledge and experience.
