The University of Toronto's student-led Green Chemistry Initiative is hosting its 11th annual Symposium ... with a new twist: GCI has joined forces with McGill University's Green Chemistry McGill to present this year's event.

Guided by the theme "Minimizing Waste from Lab to Landfill," the Symposium will showcase techniques researchers can use in the lab to significantly increase efficiency and reduce chemical waste.

"This symposium is designed to connect students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty members interested in Green Chemistry with current leaders in the field to discuss advances in chemical processes and the future of sustainable research practices."

The event will include student research talks, a poster session, networking opportunities, and a Montreal excursion event. Speakers from academia and industry will present on topics such as:

  • Reaction optimization with lower solvent volumes
  • Decreased temperatures
  • Safer reagents
  • Photocatalysis
  • Low-cost flow chemistry
  • Selective, low-energy synthesis
  • Designing materials for degradability and recyclability
