The global movement toward green and sustainable chemistry received a significant boost in May 2026 when leaders in research, industry, education, and policy gathered at the Nobel Prize Museum in Stockholm, Sweden to launch the Stockholm Declaration on Chemistry for the Future.
"Purposeful chemistry is focused on ethical, sustainable, and innovative solutions to global challenges. The Stockholm Declaration on Chemistry for the Future is a call to action urging scientists, industry, educators, students, and policy makers to collaborate on implementing solutions for human well-being while preserving and protecting our environment. By embracing this vision, we can harness chemistry’s full potential as a catalyst for a fairer, more sustainable, and resilient world." - Stockholm Declaration on Chemistry for the Future
As of Fall 2026 more than 1,800 individuals and organizations have signed the declaration. The signatories include:
